Just Breathe

About a month ago I realized that I had gone through the entire Becker course once and FAR twice. And still I struggled. By the time I got down to the last topic, I had forgotten the first! So I made up my mind that this was it. If the material didn't sink in and stay in, I was abandoning ship and moving on. Just wasn't meant to be and I would be okay with that. Then lo and behold, as I started to revisit the material, I found that I was understanding (and not just memorizing) the concepts. I have been studying them piece by piece. Taking my time with the lectures and not moving on until I really have a grasp of the material. And it's working. I know longer get that sinking feeling in my stomach when I open up a problem. When anyone asks when I will be testing I reply, "Don't know, I will take it when I am ready." I no longer feel guilty when after a long hard day at work, I don't feel like putting in three hours of studying. The only thing I make a point of doing is each day reviewing my handwritten list of concepts just so they stay fresh in my mind. And again, IT'S WORKING. I am now a Recovering CPA Exam Slacker. Taking it one day at a time.

Hello, I'm MCC's Ma and I am a CPA Slacker

I graduated with a Masters in Accounting in 2009. As part of the coursework, I completed the Becker CPA Review course (and passed). I did not sit for the exam. Following graduation I was promoted to Controller by my employer. Studying while getting acclimated to a new job was hard (whine). I abandoned ship after a few half hearted attempts. In March 2011 my employer approved payment for me to re-take the review course. Now he's expecting me to sit and pass the exams. My initial plan was to sit for FAR in July. My next plan was August. Since September is dark, I could do October but have decided on November so I can be REALLY ready. MCC, my only child has had to endure many a lecture from his Ma regarding the awful habit of procrastination. Here's hoping he never runs across this blog.
